Seriquina was like many other twelve year olds. “Dirty Dancing” was her favourite music, she got lots of A’s at school and was enjoying being a kid. Then a prowling car with an older man changed her life forever. This eye-opening film explores the issue of endemic underage prostitution in the US as teenage prostitutes relate how they were groomed, coerced and manhandled by pimps at a brutally young age. We also hear, chillingly, from pimps themselves as they manipulate vulnerable money-earners, first sweet talking then brutalising them – and filming it in the hopes of securing a reality show.
As the girls take refuge in a shelter they try to free themselves, sometimes unsuccessfully, from the pyschological ties that bind. The ex-prostitute who runs the shelter is determined to protect her girls, but all too often plays witness to the difficulties of starting afresh after life on the street.
